My name is Meagan Mikolas, I am 22 years old and am born and raised in Scio, OR. My priorities are my education goals, spending time with loved ones, and creating art that will make people smile. I am earning my Business Administration degree at Linn-Benton, and I am currently dually enrolled with OSU. I plan to start taking classes at OSU by Fall Term 2026, in the meantime I am taking BA223, BA211Z, and Oceanography to fulfill my last science requirement!

Meagan Mikolas
I have resided in Stayton, OR in my very first apartment and take about 75% of classes online due to the long commute. Online classes have helped me succeed tremendously, starting my junior year of high school, I went online due to COVID, and I have never looked back. The ability to be independent and responsible for my own duties has helped me grow tremendously as a student.

When I am not working on my education I am working on my upcoming small business "Mae's Cards and Decor, where I create greeting cards and decor out of dried flowers.

BA223 sparked my interest because I believe I will be able to learn a multitude of things that will not only help me move forward in my classes but also help me in my small business. I foresee myself learning how to identify my audience so I am reaching the people who are interested in my work and those who can simply support my socials grow. By learning the different marketing techniques and how to plan them I will be able to grow my business and take this knowledge with me to my future business classes. One of my main goals is to learn how to market my items in the most efficient way, which being on social media and not! I have a lot of confidence that this class will do just that, with just the very first assignment I already have a new technique I can incorporate into my small business and even my personal life. I am extremely interested to see how many things I learn and think "wow I can’t believe I didn't think of that, I am definitely using it!"

This place?...Again?

Have you ever wanted to go out, but you tired of the same old hang out spots? Or is it for a special occasion, so you want to plan it perfectly in a fun or fancy area you have not been before? The worst is when you try to go somewhere new, and you do your best to research it but then you end up disappointed or simply overstimulated by the environment. I know I have experienced all these things, living in a small town my whole life it can be hard to find a new restaurant/bar that isn't 2 plus hours from me, so when I found this app I knew I had to look into it some more!      If you have ever gone online shopping, you are probably familiar with the "filter" button where you can filter out the things you do and do not want to see. This could include things like color, price, brand, past buyer’s reviews, etc. Well imagine you can do that to find the perfect hang out spot, you can filter things like music, lighting, food/drinks, price, scenery, ...

Trend to Trouble: TikTok's "Chubby Filter" Controversy

I have chosen TikTok  (  https://www.tiktok.com/en/ )as my company. TikTok  was once known as a platform to show off dance moves and funny videos. In our digital age it has grown to be a strong tool in shaping beauty standards and influencing how people view themselves. I wanted to talk about this company because they have recently gotten backlash for a recent filter they uploaded, "Chubby Filter". This started as a promotional tool, but it quickly got turned around when influencers started using this filter to body shame others. This topic will highlight the company's   marketing strategy, and the harm digital effects can have on body images.       TikTok's value proposition is to allow users/influencers/brands to create, discover, and share short videos that are informative, funny, authentic, and entertaining. It is meant to be a platform where people can connect with others all around the world, learn about cultural...
